According to Chris:

Until August 2009, Pittsburgh was the largest US City I had never visited.  For some reason, in all my travels, I had never made it to Pittsburgh.  Several years ago, a good friend moved there with his family, so I decided to rent a car when I was in New York, drive across Pennsylvania, and finally visit him.  All I can say is, in the brief 24 hours I stayed there, I totally loved it.  First off, I thought the landscape, the hills, the tunnels, the rivers, the bridges, and everything, were incredibly interesting.  I'd studied maps of Pittsburgh many times, and seen this tangled web of "279" "579" "376" "22-30" "TRUCK 19" "60" "28"  -- and couldn't quite figure out why all the roads went in the directions they did.  Now, I understood.  Coming in on 22 from the east, I stopped at a Panera in Murrysville to check my email and have a soda, then, when I got onto 376, I felt like I was strapped into a chute at a waterpark that blasted me on a twisting ride, thru curves and tunnels, hills and dips, until I come around the last curve and BAM -- there's Pittsburgh -- right there -- just like it looked on TV whenever I watched Steelers or Pirates games.  A beautiful sight.  And just like on the maps and TV, there were the 2 rivers coming together in a sharp point to form one big river.

My friend lived up north somewhere near "McCandless", and the next day we went all around the city, and, the whole time, I am trying to figure out what to do for a new Pittsburgh T Shirt.  We went to the Point State Park and saw the sites of the old forts and the fountain, walked around downtown, saw the stadiums... let me first say, at this writing, it's fantastic that both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins are World Champions, but I really feel sorry you guys with the Pirates.  You deserve better.  Football, I mean, that is IMPORTANT, but Baseball, that's an everyday thing, and I hope the Pirates someday find their way again.  Anyway, we also went around to the South Side, to Shadyside, the Strip District, and Oakland -- where I did observe, the Stone Statue of the Pitt Panther looks nearly indistinguishable from the Stone Statue of the Nittany Lion that I had seen the day before in State College at Penn State.  Not complaining, just thought it was funny.  A note too, you may have read I grew up in Florida, was always a Dolphins fan, and wanted to say, thank you, thank you, thank you, Pittsburgh, for Dan Marino!

So, the deal was, I thought Pittsburgh was this postcard-scenic, idyllic, interesting, tree-lined, and really clean looking place!  No belching smokestacks or polluted rivers that I could see.  It definitely did not make me think "Rust Belt" -- so, I was rolling that round in my head, and thinking about how proud people are to be from Pittsburgh, and that it's not rusting or decaying, and we came up with PITTSBURGH WILL NEVER RUST for this tshirt.  Enjoy!

PS - We did decide not to try to work in "YINZ" or "N'AT" onto the shirt.  But I did buy a couple of those stickers at a souvenir store.  Gotta have some Pierogies next time too.
