According to Chris:

Our original Kansas Girl TShirt from 2004 was part of our very first "branching out" from Chicago to other states of the Midwest, and eventually to the entire USA.  I personally have not spent too much time there, but all the people I've met from there have been SOLID.  My only time in Kansas was on my family's cross-country trip when I was 10.  We had driven from Florida to California, and then were on our way back and my father REALLY wanted to get home in a hurry.  We had spent the previous night in Salina, Utah and were heading east on I-70.  By the time we passed Denver, my Dad was like, "let's see how far we can go before I get tired" -- and we were soon blasting across the Colorado/Kansas border, and when I next woke up in the back seat, we were in a Truck Stop in Hays, Kansas at 2AM.  After we ate, my next memory was the sun in my face as we were driving through Kansas City, going from KCK to KCMO, and that was it for me and Kansas to date.  We actually spent that night in Cape Girardeau, Missouri (here's the route -- yes, he drove 1400 miles without sleeping) -- and then the NEXT day drove from there to Vero Beach (another 1005 miles) -- anyway, I miss you Dad, but for some reason that trip always just makes me think of Kansas.

My other nearest brush with Kansas, is that my friend Basil lived in Wichita for 3 years, and was always saying, When are you gonna visit?  When are you gonna visit?  It's only about a 2 hour flight.  Well, I was just really BUSY those 3 years.  Then, he took a new job and moved to Sydney, Australia for 3 years.  Within a month of him moving there, I'd booked a flight and was on my way. "Because you're such a good friend."  No disrespect, Wichita!  Also, my friend Cliffy from Topeka, is one of the most unconditionally good-natured people you'll ever meet -- and -- he has the best posture of anyone I've ever met.

Anyway, Kansas, thanks for all the wheat, thanks for holding the country together, congrats on your basketball team(s), and watch out for those tornadoes!  Our previous Kansas Girl tee said "Just Don't Call Me Dorothy" -- and of course, we'd be tempted to say something like, "We're Not in Kansas Anymore" -- but even though I've spent just 6 hours there, I like Kansas Girls, and I'll be sure to hang out more next time!
