I absolutely love and adore Long Island... growing up in Florida, my family would drive up to see the ol' relatives in New York every summer, and they'd also have me spend a month or so up in LI with my aunt & uncle & cousins.  They lived in Deer Park, and from there, I got to know all these wonderful places on Long Island like Jones Beach, Adventureland on 110, the old batting cages and amusement park in Northport, and all the best pizza, italian ices, bagels, pastries, chinese food, and everything else in the world you couldn't get in Vero Beach, Fla in the 1970s!  I also loved the old black and white exit signs on the Southern State Parkway, and loved all the parkways and expressways and backroads all over the Island.  And yes, it wasn't till years later that I actually had a Long Island Iced Tea, but whenever I do, it brings back great memories.
